It was 4:51pm before Bridger got home from school yesterday… YES you read that right it was 4:51. That means he was gone from home, on his first day of school, for over 9 1/2 hours!!!!!
9 1/2 HOURS!!!!
I couldn’t believe it! But, it was the first day, and there were a few issues, so it won’t be like that on a daily basis. School get’s out at 2:50, and if he rides the bus home, he should get home at 4ish… not 5ish! Poor kid got home in time to eat dinner, play for a few minuets, move pipe with dad (he wanted to-he loves to work next to Jason) and climb in bed! I felt so bad for him, but I shouldn’t have felt so bad because he could have rode home with me on a few different occasions…{story time}
I went to the school at 2:50! I was curious of the scheduling, wanted to see how it worked, and make sure Bridger was taken care of! Not under trusting, just overprotective- I know!!! I was waiting, and waiting, and waiting…
AND WAITING…AND WAITING…
Cooper and Addi were getting so anxious and grumpy, and I was following in there childish behavior. I didn’t want to step on anyone's toes, so I just keep waiting and watching-At this point it is about 4 o’clock. Well, about that time I found out he was on what they called “Second Bussing.” This meant that before Bridge was picked up at school, his bus would be picking up the students that go to school in Driggs first. So it is the opposite routine then in the morning. School doesn’t start till 8:30, but Bridger arrives around 7:45ish, so he has 45 minuets to recess and eat breakfast before class. So I guess the same goes for afternoon. School is out at 2:50, but his bus won’t even arrive to the school until 3:45ish, so he has yet another recess period. This means that throughout his day he has 5 recesses. I just pray he has some great friends he loves to play with!!! Anyway, so FINALLY about 4:15 I see Bridger and the other students that ride the bus with him come out front of the school building. I get out of the Jeep, and start walking across the road. Bridger sees me and says “I thought I was riding the bus home?” to which I replied “You can ride the bus if you want, I just wanted to make sure you were to tired, and just wanted to get a ride home today.” He acted very annoyed I was there… Then I said “Buddy did you have a good first day.” THEN… he kinda sorda turned his back to me, looked down at the ground and mumbled under his breath “yes.” He COMPLETELY SNUBBED ME!!! It was like my 5 year old was utterly annoyed and embarrassed I was there at the school! My 5 year old!!! That was my cue, I walked across the street and got back in my jeep! Gosh, I sat there for an hour and a half watching kid after kid come out and be so excited to see there mom’s or dad’s, and great them with hugs and kisses…mine snubbed me and was bothered I was there!! Geez…
I waited for about 5 more minuets, and still no bus. I decided I would go get the kids ice cream I had promised and just go home! He didn’t need me, or want me there. I wasn’t going to “waist” anymore time. So I went home and waited and waited… Laughing!
At 4:51 when he got home I wanted to know all about his day.

Mom: “How was your first day”
Bridger: “Good, my teacher is kinda mean.”
Mom: “Why?”
Bridger: “She was just mad.”
Mom: “Like what?”
Bridger: “I don’t know, like she told us to get in a line. Everyone was in a line, and she was just mad. She told us like 15 times to get in a line, and we all were.”
Mom: “Well did you listen to her?”
Bridger: “Ya”
Mom: “What did you do today”
Bridger: “Played a few times”
Mom: “What did you do in class?”
Bridger: “Just sat there the whole day. We took rests. Mrs. C just talked and talked all day.”
Mom: “What did she say?”
Bridger: “Don’t jump off the swings, don’t climb on the slide, and just stuff like that.”
Bridger: “I had like an hour to wait there.”
Mom: laughing… “What did you have for lunch?”
Bridger: “Hamburgers, fries, pickles and chocolate milk. It was good.”
Bridger: “There is another girl I like.”
Mom: “What’s her name?”
Bridger: “hmmmmmm, oh Mrs. Heidi. She was nice.”
Mom: “Are you excited to go tomorrow?”
Bridger: “Tomorrow we are going to play a lot more then today.”
Bridger: “That’s about all…”
{I wrote this stuff down when I was talking to him, so these are pretty much direct quotes}
After this conversation he did proceed to tell me that a kid threw rocks at him at recess because he was talking to a kid, and he didn’t want him to be. Oh… makes me sick. I don’t know if I am ready for that part of all of this. I don’t want him being picked on, but I don’t want him letting kids pick on him… so what do you do? How do you handle it! I don’t want him being the class tattle tale, either. AUGHHHHHH I just hate that. I just want him to find a few good good good friends.
That was the rest of my day…
I just sent him off again for his 2nd day, and can’t help but get teary eyed all over again… am I a baby or what???!!!
